Yes, you can now present your results in a table with one or more
columns, instead of the traditional ordered list which allows for only
one column. Furthermore if you are placing a Product Photo next to each result, you now have more options for selecting where the
photo should appear in relation to other result items. With the right
settings your results page can be made to mimic a product catalogue, and
give your website users a professional e-commerce online shopping
experience.
To set multiple columns and/or customize your product photo layout, see your account manager's "Tables & Columns" section. All the settings are self explanatory and quick to change, so
we recommend you try several variations until you find the best look
for your results display. Please Note: To show any product photos next to each result, you would first need to insert PICOLINKPIC tags to your pages, or for paid accounts you could possibly use PICO_TEMPLATE_LINKPIC in your results template. Otherwise with no product photos, the "Linked Picture" settings below will have no effect.
You may also end up wanting to make changes in your account manager's "Configure Results" section, to change other parts of the results like the meta
descriptions, concordance, etc. For more customizing options and an
explanation of these other result items, please read our FAQ here.
Here is a summary of settings in the Tables & Columns section.
- Display Search Results in Tables
A general switch for
displaying the results in tables instead of the traditional ordered
list. If not selected, other options below will have no effect. Paid
accounts may also apply a CSS Style to the table for more customizing control.
- Display Result Numbering
Lets you decide whether to display numbering next to each result. Paid accounts may also customize the CSS Style of the number display.
- Number of Table Columns
Sets the number of columns in
the table, can be 1 or more. For multiple columns, the results will be
ordered left-to-right in a given row, and then top-to-bottom across all
rows. You can also control the width of your entire results area, in
your account manager's "Page Design" section.
- Pixels Between Columns and Rows
Lets you set the
spacing in pixels between the rows and columns. Enter numeric values
only, or to restore defaults enter the word "default" or clear the input
boxes.
- Pixels Between Linked Pictures and Text
Lets you set
the spacing in pixels between your product photos and the text portion
of your results. This space is added either to the right or left of
your product photos, depending on your choices in the "Location &
Positioning" settings below. Enter a numeric value only, or to restore
the default spacing enter the word "default" or clear the input box.
- Linked Picture Width and Height
If your product photos
have varying sizes, this is a good way to standardize their look on
your search results. Use these to force each photo to a specific width
or height in pixels. If you specify your own width and height attribute
values in your PICOLINKPIC tags and then set only one of these sizes, the other dimension will be
scaled proportionately so your photos will not appear distorted.
- Linked Picture Location and Positioning
Gives you
several options for deciding where to place your images. We recommend
you experiment with these as they are quick to change, and some might
look better for your photos than others. Use the "Column Width" or
"Cell Width" options to create extra spacing or to help align your
images if they have varying widths. These will only have an effect if
you enter a width that is wider than your images, otherwise by default
the column or cells would expand to fit whatever images are contained
within. To restore the default behavior for either option, enter the
word "default" or clear the input box.
