Yes, it can, if you want it to! Your search engine will index
and make searchable all of your web pages' visible content (often known
as the body). What's more, Titles, Meta Descriptions, Meta Keywords, and
Image Alts are web page content that is not normally displayed in the
browser to the reader, but which is often made searchable in search
engines as well. We make this content optional so that you can restrict
the finding of terms to what the user will actually see, or you can
direct your users to all of your content if you think that it will make
for good searches in the context of your website. Further, you can opt
to include the file name itself for searching, where this can be the
full name (example: "april_charts" of april_charts.html) or parsed
("april" and "charts"). And Professional and Premium accounts can
increase the weighted importance of these optional parts to affect
search results even further. See the Index Modes section of your account manager.
We start all accounts with the option of Titles on only, since Titles
are easily understood and most likely to be meaningfully filled. You
can turn on the metas and alts in your Account Manager's Index Modes
section, but just be aware of what your site has supported. Many
websites have junk in the alts, or metas that are either empty or
stuffed with every keyword that could be thought of (in hopes of getting
every web searcher's attention), and this situation may not be good for
your own website's visitors to find or see in their results. Used
properly however, meaningful alts and metas can of course lead users to
see just what they are looking for. So plan your site well for your
Index Modes options, and also consult your Configure Search section
under your Designing Topics to determine what users will see in their
result pages.
